Introduction

If you love breathing in the atmosphere of shopping regardless of whether you are in a boutique or supermarket; dream of setting up your own store where you can share with shoppers the light, bubbly feeling when they step into somewhere promising; and you know you want a career as a shop manager to help customers get the best retail experience; a Degree in Retail Management will teach you what you need to know to become a successful manager in retail or even your own boss.

Managers in retail are responsible for bringing unique shopping experiences to customers. They decide on the theme of the shop and what goes in it to contribute to the overall look and feel – from the furniture right down to product packaging. Behind the scenes, you will be heavily involved in planning to maximize sales, manage profits and losses, hire and develop people, control and replenish stock, and generate a covetable public image for the business. You can choose to work in areas like: Retail Managing, Retail Buying or Retail Merchandising.

The Retail Buyer maintains relations with reliable manufacturers and purchase items that are in trend according to sales forecasts. Merchandisers then step into play by displaying the products to look attractive to customers with furnishings like mannequins, unique backdrops or funky shelves. Retail Managers lead and motivate the team of staff, engage in planning of promotions and events, and introduce changes to improve the business.

If you want to be constantly on your toes shopping for products as a Retail Buyer or decorating a shop as a Retail Merchandiser, furthering your education with a Degree in Retail Management will give you the skills and knowledge necessary for your future career.
