Introduction

If you’re dreaming of revamping the fashion industry with your own label; own a chic boutique in an uptown district; or even work in an internationally-renown couture house, a degree in Fashion Design is right up your street.

Fashion helps an individual express style and status for a defined sense of identity. There’s much more to designing than just creating expensive handbags that hang off the arms of A-Listers like Hollywood celebrities. Design work is present in all sorts of garment fashion – from evening dresses for a special event to work boots for construction workers.

Today’s fashion industry needs designers to create apparels for all walks of life. The designer is required to understand how fashion works, what outfit works for different occasions and understand the value of a particular piece of clothing. How an outfit finally looks on the eventual wearer depends on the designer’s skill and knowledge to conceptualize, tailor and style the dress to bring out the best and minimize flaws.

For some other designers, the work does not end when the outfits for a collection are completed – it simply marks a beginning. A public image is required; made by undergoing photo shoots, fashion shows, boutique open houses or even all of the above.

Get a Degree in Fashion Design if you see yourself as a couturier, fashion consultant or an apparel designer three to five years down the road. Fashion designing goes beyond the elegant, whimsical and fun clothes and accessories on dashing models that we see parading down the runways. Like it or not, fashion designers wield tremendous influence on what we wear and how we wear it. Many of us have clothes in our closets stamped with these designer brand names. We may own sunglasses, purses, or scarves splattered with these logos. And even those of us who couldn't care less about fashion probably can admit to owning at least one branded items.

Our Fashion Design degree program focuses on developing an in-depth understanding of fashion design through exploratory and experimental projects. This Bachelor Degree in Fashion Design takes the student from design concepts and processes through to final production, along with the required business and contextual studies. It also provides an integrated approach to fashion, combining creativity with applied technical proficiency.

With a strong foundation in technical proficiency and a good eye for market trends, students in our fashion design classes will start to hone their individual styles and identities through their collections. At Raffles, we train students to be flexible in responding to ever-changing market needs, technological developments and trends. With that, our fashion graduates will be more than ready to assume professional work in the fast-paced fashion industry.
