Fashion Design Degree

is awarded on the completion of third year of study:
Design Research Interactive Systems

This subject aims to give students an introduction to all interactive systems (Human Factors and Ergonomics) that affect the design process, design research and design practice. Through written research and visual presentations, students will explore and interpret work of international researchers and designers in relation to the fashion discipline.

Men's Wear and Women's Wear Collection

Through Men's Wear and Women's Wear Collection, students will research and develop design briefs and then further develop these collections in the studio. The stages of research and production will be mapped and developed throughout the duration of this studio. An exploration of new materials and creative embellishment, accessories and a personal style are expected to develop at this level.

Sustainable Design

The aim of this subject is to give students an awareness of the importance of designing for sustainability in addition to providing a valuable knowledge of current sustainable technologies, materials, design innovation and practitioners. Students will be required to actively discuss and debate issues relating to ethical design, research and evaluate sustainable designs and practitioners develop their own approach to producing sustainable design.

Design and Subculture

Design and subculture explores the role of design within the ongoing interaction between fringe cultural movements and dominant popular culture. This subject explores a range of subcultures and their transition historically into mainstream culture through design.

Major Studio Project

This subject provides an opportunity for students to research, design and realize a significant collection and body of design work. This sustained development of work allows the students to develop a strong conceptual basis to the work and to fully test and experiment with design problems and solutions. It is expected that a high degree of finish will be obtained through the construction of these designs alongside a professional final presentation and portfolio.

Design Futures

Design Futures builds on principles established in Sustainable Design, encouraging students to generate critically engaged design practices and methodologies. This subject has a focus on manufacturing and material practices, as well as alternatives to physical design outcomes. Through the in-depth investigation and analysis of these issues and ideas students will be required to establish how their own current and future practice will deal with issues of ethical responsibility, design sustainability and accountability.
