High Achiever: Debbie Chan

Course: Advanced Diploma in Visual Communication (Graphic Design)

'Potential employers were impressed by the quality and diversity of projects I did at school, as well as the commercial viability of work produced… my entire time at Raffles Design Institute was a rather interesting and colourful experience - from what I picked up in classes, to the all the people I encountered during my time here.'
- Debbie Chan

Words of wisdom spoken by Debbie Chan, an Advanced Diploma in Visual Communication (Graphic Design) graduate from Raffles Design Institute. Having recently clinched a top post as Graphic Designer at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), she has been busy designing PS2 and PSP game packaging, merchandise, point-of-sales for UK and Europe. Her work also entails doing a bit of corporate design for SCEE.

Debbie actually started her career in consultancy having gained her first degree in management. To give up her job and pursue her love for design was a huge personal achievement that paid off. She was pleased at the wide selection of classes covered in the Visual Communication programme at Raffles Design Institute, and the good variety of coursework she was able to include in her portfolio upon graduation.

In terms of major design achievements, Debbie is modest, stating no more than doing a few things in her time, including designing a massive pane of stained glass for a church off River Valley Road, Singapore. She muses that major design accomplishments will come in time.

At the moment, Debbie is very content about her position in life. Occasionally, feeling the itch to break out and 'do her own thing', she looks forward to being able to be totally creative on her own terms. Her own design film someday? Perhaps.

But for now, we are proud of Debbie's achievements and look forward to hearing more from this talented individual soon.
