'I like to challenge boundaries, and draw inspiration from unrelated objects. Especially with advances in technology, small things in life are not always incorporated.'
- Irwan Shah

project1Irwan, a former Information Technology student and current product designer appreciates the finer things in life. His designs are guided by his passion for automotive styling, from his 'car crazy' family.

It then comes as no surprise that this 21-year old appreciates classic Italian designs on Lamborghinis and Ferraris, as the 'lines on the body of cars are timeless'. These days, he peppers his designs with pure lines and a minimalist approach.

His latest claim to fame, however, is being one of five finalists for the Bombay Sapphire Competition 2005. His entry, 'Frozen in Time' caught the attention of judges. This idea came to him after a casual get-together with friends, where he was inspired by the elegance of the hourglass, and how this object and shape epitomizes time. He reinvented the shape and replaced the core of the glasss with narrow, hollow lines, filled with a blue liquid to symbolize the timeless nature of Bombay Sapphire.

project1With no concrete plan but a mature approach to life, his plans in the pipeline are to pursue a degree in future and be a well-accomplished designer. He abides by his design philosophy, 'never be afraid to try, take a fresh look at things and don't take life too seriously'. 'Less limits', he quips, 'are more fun'.
